Best On-Trend Outerwear

While parkas and puffers are perfect for winter in New England, it’s never too late to hop on to what else is trending in coats. This season, cozy outerwear offerings are furry and fuzzy - in vibrant colors like cobalt blue and hot pink. Take your pick of genuine leather and shearling to faux fur and sherpa.

Classic wool coats and peacoats have made a comeback as well, with oversized lapels to keep them fresh. Plus, leather bombers seem to defy all odds and never go out of style! To help out our busy gals, we’ve done the research to help you decide exactly which on-trend outerwear to choose this year!

Shearling (genuine) / Sherpa (faux)

The difference isn’t always obvious so the decision depends on your preferences and budget. Obviously anything faux is going to be less expensive, like this sherpa jacket with faux fleece and breathable pockets by Backcountry. Or elevate the look with HiSO’s genuine shearling parka with contrasting wool seams is ideal when you consider the cost per wear. Either way, make an investment in a timeless style coat that will last for years.

Leather / Vegan Leather Puffer

Long gone are the days where nylon rules the puffer filled with duck or geese feathers. In 1936, the down jacket was invented by Eddie Bauer, but now everyone has a version and thankfully some have incorporated leather looks into the quilted coat. Like Allsaints cropped leather puffer ($719) and Guess’ faux-leather puffer that zips up to the collar ($220). This shorter style won’t cover your longer blazer or sweater but it does look great paired with your new high-waisted jeans!

Mixed Materials

Some of my favorite jackets have a mix of materials and styles. Overland makes a gorgeous shearling sheepskin coat that has a luxurious fur collar ($1,295) and Soia&Kyo’s latest “Avery” mid-length coat is part wool, part puffer with an oversized hoodies that’ll make your kids jealous! ($525)

Large Lapels

Bring on the color! These calf length jackets are terrific toppers for a dressy night out. Reiss self-belted coat with a notched lapel is show-stopping in blue ($640). Express shawl lapel wrap coat in deep purple ($278) also has a belt for a more flattering silhouette. Both coats are unlined therefore, perfect for Fall outings. To sport this trend, look out for any coat style that has an oversized lapel highlighted with textures like fur or embroidery.
