Valentine's Day Outfit Ideas for Him and Her

valentine's day outfits

Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romantic date nights—it’s a time to celebrate in many ways, whether you’re heading out for a fancy dinner, grabbing drinks with friends, or keeping things cozy at home. No matter how you plan to spend the day, dressing the part can make the occasion feel even more special.

With this guide our personal stylists will help you Shop Your Closet to create outfits for every romantic setting.

An Upscale Dinner

Hers: Why not pull out a little red dress this Valentine's day?! We know it’s a bit literal, but it’s also fun! Go for a figure flattering cocktail dress with classic black pumps and minimalist jewelry. If you are headed out to your favorite 4-star restaurant, add a black faux fur shawl. gloves or coat to keep you warm and add some extra glamor. Not feeling red? Opt for the look in a favorite deeper shade like burgundy. Or go with one of my favorites a beautiful ivory number.

Pants are still very on trend and can be a unique and elegant option. Silk wide leg version with a sleek top and heels can be as dressed up as a dress.

His: You can’t go wrong with a classic suiting to impress but modernize your look with easy upgrades for a fresh refined vibe. Skip the predictable suiting and opt for textured, elevated fabrics — think soft tailoring, knit blazers, or structured chinos. Inject some personality with an intricate print buttondown or upgraded tee for a refined take. A lace-up derby or Chelsea boot pulls everyting together, giving your look a polished edge.

Elevated Night Out

Hers: Have some fun with your look and go playful and modern with a jumpsuit. Incorporate fun accessories and dare to-go for a bold red lip that you normally wouldn't wear while running the kids carpool. Or top off your look with a burgundy leather jacket for a cool-casual, yet current vibe. You could even opt for jeans if you level-up with heels and sparkling tops and accessories.

His: Since this isn't just any date night, turn things up a notch and stay away from the weekend dad outfit. For a chilly night, layer a thin sweater under a cool modern blazer or jacket. Or pair your casual button down with a great pair of chinos — tuck it in and add a leather belt and take those new casual leather dress shoes out of the box. Trust us, no one wants you to wear your old tennis shoes with holes in the canvas here. To "dress up" this look up a notch you can add a navy or black casual blazer then top with a classic peacoat.

A No-Stress Evening

Hers: For those of us that like to look polished, and stay comfy and casual this is your perfect outfit: a classic bootcut denim (dark if you can) and a thin but cozy sweater or lacy black top. Add a belt or a great necklace for a touch of sparkle. Or keep it cool and casual and pullout that leather jacket and expensive statement handbag that you normally wouldn't wear to impress your handsome date.

His:  Classic dark denim (without holes!) and a basic sweater, is the perfect date night look for dinner and a movie. Level up with a gray denim or modern khaki. Leave your favorite college sweatshirt at home and bring out that warm wool bomber for a cool-causal look. If an athletic sneaker clashes with your look, try a leather sneaker or causal boot instead.
