3 Tips for Dressing for Graduation
It’s graduation season! Whether you’re attending the high school or college graduation of your child, niece, nephew, or family friend, choosing the perfect thing to wear for this monumental celebration is important and can be tricky! You want to be comfortable yet still dressed for the occasion, and navigating the venues from outdoor lawn to over air conditioned halls adds more complications!

If the invitation doesn’t specify a dress code, choose a nice dress, a skirt and blouse or try an on-trend pantsuit in a fun summer color. A suit or a dress will be perfect for the occasion and a suit jacket can come in handy if the day is cooler. Bold colors can also look great and are on trend for what’s happening in fashion right now for spring. Any dress that has a daytime feel will work - even a maxi for a more bohemian feel (think art school!).

Opt for Light Fabrics
Weather permitting, most graduations are held outside. You’ll likely be out in the open sun, sitting on bleachers or in chairs on a lawn, so you’ll want to wear lighter fabrics as well as lighter colors to prevent you from overheating during an event that typically lasts a few hours. Think about including a hat to keep the sun off your face, maybe straw with a fun hatband that matches what you are wearing. Cotton, linen, and silk are three excellent fabric choices that are both stylish and practical for warmer weather. And of course a great pair of sunglasses!

Prepare for the Weather
Just like you want to prepare for hot temperatures, you also want to prepare for rain or even a slight breeze if the ceremony is held in the evening or an air conditioned venue. Cardigans, wraps, and blazers are all great options with a sophisticated look that simultaneously protects you from the weather! I keep a foldable umbrella in my bag in case of rain.

Choose the Right Shoe
Walking on bumpy grass, a gym floor, or uneven pavement can be a nightmare if you don’t have the right shoe. Add walking up and down bleachers into the mix, and you might be in trouble! It’s crucial to select a shoe that works with your look but is still appropriate for the venue.
What are our recommendations? Shoes that have a wedge or block heel. Not only are these styles on-trend but they’re also comfortable, leaving you with happy feet! A great flat, especially those with a more pointed toe will mimic a heel and are available in so many colors and styles – and your feet will thank you.
Cheers to the class of 2022!
