10 Ways to Make Winter More Enjoyable
Hygge is the Danish concept of warm coziness during the winter months. It's about creating and enjoying the good things in life with good people. Here at Unfoldid, we've embraced the notion of Hygge and the warmth and positivity it brings to living life day-to-day. If you looking to enjoy winter more, start with these tips on embracing a Hygee lifestyle:
1. Make your space cozy + comfy
Redecorate your living and working spaces with warm tones. Use lower wattage light bulbs and fill your space with candles or an essential oil diffuser. Invest in some comfy throw pillows and blanks to add extra comfort to seating, and keep your toes warm with textured rugs. Surround yourself in coziness!
2. Embrace seasonal cooking
Cooking with seasonal produce is healthier, cheaper and better for the environment.
3. Take a fika break
Fika is the Swedish word to take a moment to slow down and appreciate the good things in life. You could try mediating for a few minutes a day, make your favorite cup of tea, or go for a walk and savor the moment.
4. Plan an on-going group activity
Make socializing with family and friends priority. This can even be done virtually by scheduling a “GroupWatch” on your favorite streaming service, host a weekly rotating potluck with family or friends in your pod, or organize a wine-down Wednesdays over Zoom with the girls.
5. Get more sun
Lack of Vitamin D is one of the leading causes of seasonal depression. Of course, it’s hard to get much sun if you’re stuck inside working. If you can’t make time to bundle up for a walk outside in the sunshine, set your desk next to a sunny window and on the weekends, be sure to plan some fun outdoor activities.
6. Eat your Vitamin D
If you can’t get outdoors to soak up the Vitamin D, add fish, soy, mushrooms and vitamin-fortified cereals to your diet.
7. Get a spray tan
We love when our skin is glowing, healthy and bronzed. Consult an expert on getting the perfect spray tan/tanner that’s right for your skin tone or use a lotion that builds up color very gradually over many uses.
8. Try a traditional sauna
Let this winter be the one that you perfect the art of the real, true Scandinavian sauna experience.
9. Kindness
As we are approaching February, we should remember Valentine’s Day isn’t just a romantic holiday. This is the time of year we should show and spread love as much as possible. Reach out to an old friend or family members that you haven't heard from or seen in a while, and remind them how much you love and appreciate them.
10. Invest in proper winter clothing!
Nothing is more miserable than walking outside in January in ballet flats. Your warm winter gear doesn't have to be bulky and unflattering! Invest in a cool pair of wool socks, fleece lined gloves, cute cable knit pompom hats or furry earmuffs, a proper pair of winter boots and layers, layers, layers!
Make more time for your self care this winter. Working with a stylist to help you edit your closet takes the stress out of getting dressed every day and saves you time in the mornings.
